The Vendée presents a green and pleasant face to the Atlantic surf, whose action has created an extraordinary expanse of golden sand, now framed by rocky cliffs, now by dunes and pine woods. The light is famously clear and the climate enjoys more hours of sunshine than anywhere in France outside Provence.
