Walnuts are widely used in cooking, oils and liqueurs, while the many oaks ensure ideal growing conditions for truffles, cepes and mushrooms. Foie gras, confits of goose and duck are popular, as are tender lamb and game. Red and whites on the wine list come from Bergerac, Cahors, Bordeaux-Médoc, Saint Emilion and Entre Deux Mers.

The Dordogne enjoys a hot and sunny climate, with daytime temperatures only half a degree less, on average, than the Mediterranean, but with cooler evenings and nights ensuring untroubled sleep. The warm sumer sunshine ensures the ripening of the grapes which produce the famous wines of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cahors.

Getting there

It is about an 8 hour drive to reach our Dordogne villas and cottages from Calais, Caen, Cherbourg and St.Malo.

Take an overnight crossing with Brittany Ferries or an early morning ferry or Eurotunnel to Calais and you will arrive at your Dordogne accommodation in the late afternoon ready for your first glass of wine!
