Taking your car to France

Driving Licence
You must have a full valid driving licence if you plan to drive abroad, not a provisional one.

Green Card
When taking a car to France fully comprehensive insurance is often reduced to Third Party Liability only. To overcome this, we recommend that you contact your insurers and obtain a Green Card. Allow at least two weeks to obtain this.

Headlights
You are advised to fit stick on deflectors to adjust the beam of your head lights to the right hand side of the road and avoid dazzling oncoming vehicles. It is also compulsory to carry spare light bulbs for your car. It is however no longer necessary to have yellow bulbs.

Warning Triangles and First Aid Kits
It is compulsory to carry a warning triangle and recommended to carry a first aid kit. Please consult your motoring organisation for exact requirements.

Seat Belts
As in the UK seat belts must be worn at all times in both the front and back of cars.

Cycle Carriers
If you intend to take bicycles abroad using a rear mounted cycle carrier you must not obscure your number plate or tail lights as this may result in a hefty on the spot fine. The use of a tailboard is highly recommended.
